Health and Safety Road Risk Requirements
The law requires an employer to ensure, as far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety of employees whilst at work and this includes driving at work. There are many complex regulations and guidelines related to this subject on this page we have put together some information and links to help you through the complexities.
What are your Legal Requirements?
Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 - requires you to ensure as far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety of employees whilst at work. Employees driving on company business are considered to be undertaking a work related activity, and the vehicle they are driving is regarded as a place of work. You also have a legal responsibility to ensure that others are not put at risk by your organisation's work related activities.
Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 - require you to carry out an assessment of the risks to the health and safety of your employees whilst at work, and to others who may be affected by their work related activities. You are required to review this risk assessment periodically.
The Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007
Changes to the corporate manslaughter laws mean that from April 6th 2008, companies whose staff are involved in serious accidents could be liable for gross negligence. For the first time, companies and organisations can be found guilty of corporate manslaughter as a result of serious management failures resulting in a gross breach of a duty of care.

Background and staff
Sirens Driving Academy was established 2 years ago and became a limited company in April 2008. We are quite unique in that we comprise of serving and ex-Police advance drivers and instructors who have completed training at nationally recognised levels. Our staff have also followed and passed the required nationally recognized training laid down by the DSA (driving standards agencies) to teach and assess driver training. We also have hand picked instructors, who are being trained to an Advance level of driving with a view to passing the demanding RoSPA (Royal Society for the prevention of Accident) Advance driving test.
We can offer you staff who have the following attributes:-
- ADI (Approved driving Instructors) with Grade 5 and 6 passes, which is the highest level and nearly 20 years experience.
- Advance Drivers who are members of IAM (Institute of Advance motorists) and RoSPA
- Advance Driving Instructors with nationally recognised qualifications within their industry and 14 years teaching thousands of Police officers

How we can Improve Driving standards
We can offer you a variety of driver training, such as:
- Teaching and developing new or young learner drivers to drive safely on the road and pass their practical driving test
- In vehicle assessments, which would highlight training needs of each individual and report findings to limit cost?
- Defensive driving, which would include teaching a systematic approach to driving as used by the Police and adopted by both RoSPA and the IAM.
- Advance driver training for those who are identified as having a natural ability or who appear to be more at risk of having an accident at work.
- Vehicle and Country familiarization, for those new to driving in the UK or a particular car.
- Refresher or remedial driving for those who are at risk or who have had an accident or near miss or driving offences |
